Nevada DOC Using Transport Vans Subject To Rollover

The Nevada Department of Corrections (DOC) continues to use 15-passenger
vans to transport prisoners despite being prone to rollover accidents. The
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has banned the sale
of such vans to schools because more than half of crashes between 1990 and
2002 involved rollovers.

Despite this fact and that the University of Nevada at Las Vegas (UNLV) has
stopped using such vans, the Nevada DOC recently received nearly one
million dollars from the State to purchase forty new vans to replace its
aging fleet of sixty-five, plus eight additional vehicles including four
minivans.
