Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff's Attempted Sexual Assault Settles For $55,000

The Law Enforcement Services Division (LESD) of Los Angeles County, California, authorized a settlement in a claim of attempted sexual assault against Dominique Daniel by an on duty deputy sheriff. The settlement saved them over $400,000 in litigation and damages.
Daniel claimed that the deputy lured her into his car when she was walking on Central Avenue by inferring that he needed information. She claimed that when they reached an alley by 76th Street he stopped the car, locked the doors, and started to sexually assault her but stopped when she started crying. Daniel filed a government tort action for emotional distress.

The Sheriff's Department agreed with the LESD's decision to settle although the deputy, who was identified by Daniel, denied any wrongdoing. See: In re Claim of Dominique Daniel, Los Angeles County Claims Board, January 16, 2007.
