$2,250,000 Paid in Negligent Supervision of Washington Parolee

On January 11, 1998, Warrick Washington, a dangerous and mentally-
ill Washington parolee, shot and killed two teenage boys playing
videogames at a friend's house. Prior to the shooting Washington had
knowingly violated terms of his parole no less than four times, but his
parole officer, Jim McGinnis, failed to violate him. The lawsuit alleged
negligent supervision, failure to warn, and negligent training and
supervision of an employee. On March 26, 2001, the suit was settled for
$2,250,000. The plaintiffs were represented by John R. Connelly, Jr. and
Thaddeus P. Martin of Tacoma. See: Gilmore v. Department of Corrections,
Pierce County Superior Court, Case No: 00-2-06327-5.
