$2,500 Awarded in Pennsylvania False Arrest Claim

The plaintiff in this case alleged that Wackenhut Corrections
Corporation falsely imprisoned him due to mistaken identity, and failed to
immediately release him when it was informed of the mistake by a parole
officer.

Plaintiff was stopped for a traffic violation in the car of Adrese
Bassett, who had an outstanding bench warrant. Upon arrest, plaintiff was
taken to Pennsylvania's Delaware County Prison. The arresting officer and
Wackenhut contended the plaintiff identified himself as Bassett and signed
documents in that name. The plaintiff said he properly identified himself
and the documents were a forgery. He spent three or four days in jail.
A jury awarded the plaintiff $2,500. He was represented by Thomas J.
O'Malley, Jr. of Philadelphia. See: Abdurhakim v. Wackenhut Corrections
Corporation, Delaware County Court, Case No: 98-15906.
