$27,000 For Washington Prisoner's 2 1/2 Years Of Unlawful Imprisonment
However, due to his status as a disabled person, DOC officials at the
Clallam Bay Corrections Center, in Clallam Bay, Washington, refused to
credit Mr. Stokes with the good time he was entitled to and he was forced
to serve his maximum sentence. Mr. Stokes was eventually released on
January 4, 2000.
Following his release, Mr. Stokes filed a tort claim with the Division of
Risk Management. The claim was quickly settled for $27,000. Mr. Stokes was
represented by Seattle attorney Charles S. Hamilton, III. See: Matter of
Stokes, Tort Claim No. 31050751 (July 20, 2000).
