$303,113 Verdict in Negligence Failure to Train Arizona Worker Case

While imprisoned in Arizona, James Jenkins agreed to work in the Department
of Public Works Maintenance yard in Duncan. On October 9, 1996, Jenkins
was instructed to take a street sweeper to a gas station. He lost control
of the sweeper on an incline, causing it to roll on its side. Jenkins
suffered a lumbar spine compression fracture.

His lawsuit alleged negligence for failing to train him to operate the
sweeper. In September, 1999, a Maricopa county jury awarded Jenkins
$303,133 in compensatory damages and $41,119.08 in medical costs. See:
Jenkins v. State of Arizona, Arizona Maricopa County Superior Court, Case
No. CV 97-18455.
