$9,000 Paid in WA Retaliation Suit

Airway Heights Correction Center prisoners Derek E. Gronquist and Donald H.
Turpin filed a 42 U.S.C. § 1983 in the Eastern District of Washington federal
court. The Complaint alleged they were subjected to retaliatory
disciplinary action resulting from lawsuits they filed upon the improper
seizure of their typewriters. Gronquist was denied a cell change and
considered for involuntary transfer to Colarado due to the lawsuit and
grievances he filed challenging harassment and physical intimidation from
the guards involved. On June 16, 2000, Gronquist, who represented himself
pro se, settled the suit for $9,000. The disposition of Turpin's claim is
unknown. See: Gronquist v. Heitner, Eastern Dist Washington, Case no.
