$95,000 Settlement in Guards Dropping Prisoner Suit
After being involved in a fight with another prisoner at Georgia's Youth Detention Center in Atlanta, guard intervened and attempted to carry prisoner Mark Thomas back to his cell, carrying him by each guard holding a
limb. Two of the guards lost their hold and dropped Thomas.
He sustained a subluxation of the vertebrae in neck. He alleged the guards violated his rights by not carrying him in an approved manner and were negligent. Prior to trial, the matter settled on August 15, 1998, by paying
Thomas $95,000. See: Thomas v. Walker, Ga. Clark County Court, Case No. STC96cV0583.
