New York Prisoner Awarded $125,000 for Slip and Fall Injury

In February 1998, a New York City prisoner was awarded $125,000 for
injuries sustained when she slipped while descending wet stairs at the
City's jail.

The 31-year-old plaintiff claimed in her lawsuit, filed in Bronx County,
that the City was negligent for failing to warn her of the hazard and for
not safely maintaining the jail. She claimed she suffered a torn knee
ligament in the July 1989 accident and arthritis. See: Elias v. City Of New
York, Bronx County Supreme Court, Case No. 17771-91, 1998 WL 1049964.
