New York Prisoner Injured On Fence Awarded $15,000

In February 1998, a New York court of claims awarded $15,000 to a state
prisoner who cut his arm on a chain link fence.

The 34-year-old plaintiff claimed that in August 1998, while playing
softball on the prison recreation yard, he ran into a chain link fence as
he attempted to catch the ball. The resulting cuts on his arm required
stitches.

The plaintiff claimed in his lawsuit that the prison was negligent for
installing an inappropriate fence on the recreation yard. See: Grimaldi v.
State Of New York, Albany County Court of Claims, Case No. 86835, 1998 WL
1019173.
