$1,000 Settlement in Mistaken Identity Arrest

Washington State’s King County paid $1,000 to Dennis R. Bowerman to settle his claim that the Auburn Police Department and King County Jail officials arrested and jailed him on a warrant for someone who had stolen his identity. When arrested at his apartment on November 6, 1999, Bowerman told police and booking personnel that he had documentation to prove that someone had stolen his identity and the warrant they were arresting him on was attributable to that person.

By failing to hear Bowerman or allowing him to prove it was mistaken identity, he was held at the Jail until November 8, which is when officials decided it was a case of mistaken identity. Represented by Moscow, Idaho attorney John C. Judge, Bowerman settled his claim on October 18, 2002. The documents related to this claim are available on PLN’s website.
