Confidential Settlement for Denial of HIV Drugs to Florida Jail Prisoners

An undisclosed settlement has been reached in a lawsuit by two former prisoners at Florida’s Broward County Jail. The lawsuit alleged that the Sheriff’s Office and Armor Correctional Health Services showed “callous indifference” to the medical needs of prisoners Richard Hardwick and Kevin Suave.

Both prisoners were HIV positive, and they were denied antiretroviral drugs for months while they were in jail in 2007. The suits settled under a confidential agreement on December 1, 2008. Source: Sun Sentinel
