$18,000 Settlement in Female Guard’s Sexual Assault on Male Juvenile

Washington State’s King County paid $18,000 to settle the civil rights suit by Jose Hernandez, alleging he was sexually assaulted at the King County Youth Services Detention Facility between April 2002 and May 2003. He claimed that guard Lydia Korolak coerced him into having oral and vaginal intercourse with her or he would face “complications” in his incarceration.

Represented by Seattle attorney Michael Schwartz, Hernandez settled his claims against King County only on August 1, 2007. The agreement and related order of dismissal specifically provide that the suit against Korolak remained pending. Resolution of that case is unknown. The documents related to this claim are available on PLN’s website. See: Hernandez v. Korolak, et al., King Co. Supr. Ct., No. 06-2-28579-4 SEA (2007).
