$8,000 Settlement for 10 Days of Wrongful Detention

Washington State’s King County has paid $8,000 to settle the claim of Pantaleon F. Alba, who was overdetained by 10 days due to King County Correctional Facility records clerk, Kimberly Carver, failing to correct his good time credits. Carver transmitted to the Washington Department of Corrections an improper number of credits and failed to correct the error when Alba brought it to her attention in December 2001.

Alba should have had a release date of April 16, 2005. When that date elapsed without release, he brought the matter to the attention of his counselor at Washington State Penitentiary. A corrected certification of credits was issued and Alba was released on April 25, 2002.

Acting pro se, Alba settled the matter on November 25, 2002. The documents relative to this claim are available on PLN’s website. See: In re Alba, King County Claim No. 31842.
