$9,000 Settlement for Sexual Assault by Seattle Jail Chaplain

Washington State’s King County paid $8,935.92 to settle the law suit of Terry Shanklin, who claimed he was sexually assaulted by Regional Justice Center Chaplain Warren Ungles from April 30 to May 10, 2001. Shanklin says he was coerced into having oral sex and masturbating for Ungles in exchange for receiving help to be released.

Ungles said he was part of a church that believed God allowed male sex with preachers. Shanklin passed a polygraph about the 7 different sexual assaults. The 8-page complaint form details the damage of a divorce and mental breakdowns due to the assault.

Represented by Seattle attorney Ronald T. Meltzer, Shanklin settled the matter for $7,500 in damages and $1,435.92 in costs. The documents related to this claim are available on PLN’s website. See Shanklin v. King County, et al., King County Superior Court, No. 04-2-10003-8 SEA.
