New York State Jury Awards $50,000 for False Arrest and Malicious Prosecution

A New York State jury awarded $50,000 in a lawsuit claiming false arrest and malicious prosecution.

Bernard Lewis was arrested for alleged possession of stolen property. He spent approximately 24 hours in jail. Thirteen months later, prosecutors moved to dismiss the charge.

Lewis then filed a lawsuit, which resulted in a week long trial. The jury found in his favor on both claims, awarding $50,000 on July 20, 2007. He was represented by attorney Michael Andrews.
