Sacramento County Agrees to Pay $7,500 to Settle Excessive Force Suit
On May 31, 2005, the County of Sacramento agreed to pay $7,500 to settle an excessive force suit.
Darryl O’Brien was taken to the Sacramento Main Jail where her tibia was broken after jail staff abruptly forced her to make a turn while walking in shackles. O’Brien later fractured her knee plate after guards dropped her to the ground. She also suffered a scapular fracture after guards jerked her back up. O’Brien was denied medical attention for her injuries, and was forced to defecate on herself as guards denied her access to a toilet and toilet paper.
O’Brien was represented by Aram Kouyoujian of Sacramento, California.
