Washington DOC Pays $4,500 to Settle Negligence Claim
On December 14, 2006, Washington State prisoner, Ronald Davis, filed a claim accusing DOC staff of failing to properly treat his medical condition. After experiencing severe chest pain, Davis alleged he was given only a "superficial exam" before being "declared fit and shown the door." After several subsequent infirmary visits with similar results, during which a doctor was never consulted, Davis was transferred to another facility. Shortly thereafter, he was rushed to an area hospital where he was examined by a doctor for the first time, and the seriousness of his condition was ascertained.
In his tort claim, Davis sought $500,000 in damages for the negligence of DOC staff, which resulted in his prolonged pain and suffering. However, on June 2, 2008, Davis accepted a $4,500 payment to dismiss his claim.
