California Settles Prisoner's Medical Care Denial Claim for $50,000

Relaun V. Deadmon, a California state prisoner, filed a civil rights action in federal court alleging that prison officials violated his Eighth Amendment rights by refusing to provide him with a proper diet and medical care for his chronic kidney disease. He also included stated claims of medical negligence.

On August 13, 2009, Deadmon settled with defendants for $50,000, including any attorney fees and costs. Deadmon was represented by Attorney Peter M. Adams of the law firm of Cooley, Goodward & Kornish. See: Deadmon v. Gannis, U.S.D.C.-S.D.Cal., Case No. 3:06-cv-01003-BTM (POR).
