State Official Charged with Sex Crime

A New York parole board member has been charged in federal court with attempting to solicit an underage girl for sex.

George Ortloff, a former Republican New York lawmaker, was arrested on October 13, 2008 at an undisclosed hotel in Colonie, New York. Believing he was meeting two sisters, ages 11 and 12, for sex, Ortloff was allegedly found nude at the hotel with sex toys, lubricants, condoms, and a camera.

Since June of that year, Ortloff, 61, had been communicating with a State Police investigator who was posing as the mother of the fictitious sisters. She or the “father” was to drop off the sisters at the hotel.

Previously a strong supporter for harsh consequences against sexual predators, Ortloff faced 10 years to life, a $250,000 fine, and no less than 5 years’ probation if convicted.
