Los Angeles County Settles in Sexual Assault by an Officer

The county of Los Angeles settled in May 2012 for $250,000 with Plaintiff Laura Moreno in a civil rights claim alleging sexual assault perpetrated by a Los Angeles County Public Safety Officer during a bogus traffic stop. Attorney fees and costs of $45,835 were deducted.

The incident occurred on March 10, 2010 on the freeway. Plaintiff asserted there was no reasonable suspicion as she was in violation of no laws. Defendant fondled and kissed Plaintiff and then drove away. Plaintiff reported the incident April 17, 2020, at which time Los Angeles SWAT arrested the officer. The officer was placed on administrative leave, and then terminated September 30, 2010. No charges were filed. See: Laura Moreno v. County of Los Angeles, U.S.D.C. (W.D. Cal.), Case No. 2:10-cv-09706-DSF-E.
