Convicted Bail Bondsman Assists FBI to Remove District Judges from the Bench

On August 28, 2006, U.S. District Judge George P. Kazen sentenced former Gretna, Louisiana bail bondsman Louis Marcotte to 38 months in prison and ordered him to pay a $15,000 fine for his March 2004 guilty plea for a racketeering conspiracy to bribe jurists and jailers for his personal gain.

Louis Marcotte owned Bail Bonds Unlimited and bribed judges and sheriff's deputies for almost exclusive access to arrestees. In March 2004, he admitted to guilt, then assisted FBI's Operation Wrinkled Robe investigation over a 2-1/2 year period. As a result, 24th Judicial District Court Judges Alan Green and Ronald Bodenheimer were removed from the bench. Green was sentenced to 51 months in prison and Bodenheimer to 46 months.

Marcotte's sister, Lori Marcotte, former vice president of the bonding company, was sentenced to six months of home detention, fined $15,000 and received three years of probation.

U.S. Attorney Jim Letten said the siblings were instrumental in securing the convictions of Green and Bodenheimer.
