$7,500 Settlement for CCA Prisoner Bitten by Spider
Corrections Corporation of America (CCA) paid $7,500 to settle a lawsuit brought by prisoner Jimmy L. Redmond, Jr., for its failure to properly treat a spider bite he sustained at the Silverdale Correctional Facility in Tennessee.
Redmond alleged he was bitten by a spider twice. The first time on August 16, 2003, in the left upper thigh caused cellulitis. The second bite on September 16, 2003, in the lateral hip area. He alleged it “was two and a half weeks following the first bites and five days following the second bites” before he was taken to a hospital for proper care.
The February 2005 confidential settlement was obtained by PLN via public records request. Redmond was represented by Chattanooga attorney John T. Rice.
