$350,000 Settlement in Police Unit Accident
The County of Los Angeles paid $350,000 to settle a lawsuit stemming from a December 6, 2009 accident between a sheriff’s patrol cruiser and a truck at an intersection. Both parties contend the other caused the accident by entering the intersection against a red light. The driver and two passengers of the truck were injured.
The March 19, 2015, settlement recommendation came after the county spent $647,307 on attorney fees and $446,906 in costs. The plaintiff was represented by the Law Office of Susan MacKay. See: Topete v. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Los Angeles Superior Court, Case No KC058362.
