Seven TDCJ Prison Guards Arrested in Alleged Smuggling Ring
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) announced on April 9, 2025, that arrest warrants were issued for seven guards at the Telford Unit who are accused of running a contraband smuggling ring at the prison. Seven search warrants were served at private homes related to the arrests.
Charged with engaging in organized criminal activity were guards Mondraesha Quanee Davis, Joshua Demond David Johnson, Alexis Michelle Gregory and Catherine Rene Davis, along with guard supervisors Cpt. Jessica Nichole Ricks and Sgt. Kimberly Renee Edwards. The seventh guard, Brittanee Wade, faces multiple felony charges for bribery, introducing a prohibited item or substance into a correctional facility and marijuana possession.
A check of the roster of the Bowie County Jail on April 29, 2025, found that Wade, Edwards and Catherine Davis were all in custody; the custody status of the others was unclear. The investigation leading to the arrests was conducted by the Texas Board of Criminal Justice, which is tasked with oversight of TDCJ.
