Dear Ms. Schlanger:
This is in further response to your Freedom of Information
Act request to this office for Bureau of Prisons documents
relating to inmate litigation.
Enclosed are two hundred and seventy six (276) pages of
documents responsive to your request. Please be advised that we
are continuing to review and process additional materials
regarding this request. Excisions have been made on certain
pages pursuant to Title 5, United States Code, § 552 (b) (2),
(b) (5), (b) (6) and (b) (7) (C) .
Exemption (b) (2) exempts from mandatory di~closure records
or information relating solely to the internal personnel rules
and practices of an agency.
Exemption (b) (5) exempts from mandatory disclosure interagency or intra-agency memorandums or letters which would not be
available by law to a party other than an agency in litigation
with the agency.
Exemption (b) (6) exempts personnel and medical files and
similar files to preclude a clearly unwarranted invasion of
personal privacy.
Exemption (b) (7) (C) exempts records or information compiled
for law enforcement purposes, but only to the extent that the
production of such law enforcement records or information could
reasonably be expected to constitute an unwarranted invasion of
personal privacy.

Pursuant to Title 28, Code of Federal Regulations, § 16.9,
this response may be appealed to the Attorney General by filing a
written appeal within sixty days from the date of this letter.
The appeal should be addressed to the Office of Information and
Privacy, u.s. Department of Justice, Flag Building, Suite 570,
Washington, D.C. 20530. Both the envelope and the letter of
appeal itself must be clearly marked: "Freedom of Information
Act Appeal."
