Attack by Fellow Prisoner Nets South Carolina Prisoner $30,000

A South Carolina Court awarded a prisoner $30,000 for injuries he suffered when attacked by another prisoner at the Greenville County Jail.

Mr. Edwards was a prisoner at the Greenville County Jail when he was attacked by another prisoner. He suffered a vertebra fracture in the lumbar area of his back.

Edwards sued in state court, alleging that he was denied proper medical care and subjected to profanity and abusive remarks by medical staff, despite the severity of his injury. Defendants denied wrongdoing but the court ruled in favor of Green, awarding him $30,000 in May, 1996. See: Edwards v. Greenville County, 1996 WL 1094262 (Unknown State Court)
