Skin Ulcer from Delouser Nets Michigan Jail Prisoner $3,500 Settlement

A Michigan prisoner was awarded $3,500 for a skin ulcer he sustained from being sprayed with a delousing product.

Mr. Young was sprayed with a delousing product when he entered the Eaton County Jail. The product caused a skin ulcer to develop.

Young sued the County and chemical manufacturer in state court. He alleged "defendants failed to adequately warn of the product's inherent dangers and failed to properly instruct consumers of the product's usage." Defendants denied liability and claimed Young's injuries were caused by intravenous drug use. Following mediation, defendants agreed to pay Young $3,500 to settle the case in March, 1996. See: Young v. Wahl, Eaton County Circuit Court, Case No. 96-500-NI, (1998 WL 907609).
