$15,000 Paid in WA DOC Employees Sexual/Racial Discrimination Suit

Norma Gellineau, an employee at the State Penitentiary at Walla Walla was
subjected to comments of an inappropriate nature by Al Breneman. He made
references to condoms, touched Gellineau's breast on one occasion, made
lewd comments about her not wearing panties, referred to an execution as a
Negro's lynching and told Gellineau she could take her "black ass" back to
Denver if she did not like his comments. In September 1994, Gellineau,
represented by Andrew C. Kottcamp of the Carlson, Drewelow, & McMahon law
firm in Wenatchee filed suit in federal court alleging violations of
various federal civil rights statutes. On May 31, 1995, Gellineau agreed
to settle the suit for $15,000. See: Gellineau v. State of Washington,
USDC Eastern District of Washington, Case No. C8-94-0432-FVS.
