$175,000 Paid in WA Guard's Second Sexual Harassment and Retaliation Suit

Madge Wheelock, a Sergeant at Monroe Command for the Washington Department
of Corrections, was subjected to continued sexual harassment and
retaliation, which occurred after she received a judgment under Snohomish
County Case No. 85-2-04790-5 in the amount of $161,148.84. After Wheelock
returned to her duties in September 1989, Michael Blair, an original
defendant in the 1985 Lawsuit, continued to make sexual innuendos and
harassed her on the job. He told her she was bought and paid for': She was
also subjected to sexual harassment by Glen Carney, also a defendant in the
1985 suit. No assistance was rendered upon her complaints to supervisors.
On May 24, 1991, Wheelock resigned from her position, and in September 1993
she filed suit in Snohomish County Superior Court alleging violation of
state discrimination laws. On August 12, 1996, Wheelock agreed to settle
her suit for $175,000, agreed to not seek employment with WA DOC, and Blair
agreed to a permanent no contact order with her. She was represented by
Russ Juckett of Everett. See: Wheelock v. State of Washington, Snohomish
County Superior Court, Case No. 93-2-05299-3.
