$27,500 Tort Claim Settlement In Washington Employee Sexual Harassment Suit

In 1999 the Washington State Department of Corrections settled a law suit
with parole officer, Joanna Prideaux an employee at the Spokane parole
office, for $27,500 for sexual harassment and retaliation. In 1998 Prideaux
complained of incidents of sexual harassment by a volunteer named Pat
Holmes, brother-in-law of Nanette Holmes a supervisor at the Spokane parole
office. She reported the incidents to Nanette Holmes and told her that she
had already reported it to higher-ups. Later that year after Prideaux
transferred to Pinelodge pre-release in Spokane, Nanette Holmes retaliated
against her by misleading supervisor Jack Kropp to believe that she was
mentally unstable, Kropp went along with Holmes and ordered Prideaux to go
to a psychologist for a mental evaluation and that she have no contact with
any employees of the Spokane office of the Department of Corrections.
Plaintiff brought suit against the defendant's for retaliation against her
for reporting sexual harassment. Plaintiff was represented by Spokane
attorney Michael J. Casey of Reed & Giesa, P.S., Attorneys At Law. See:
