$37,500 Paid in Washington for Guard's Sexual Harassment

In May 1998, Stacey Green was allowed to enter the 120-day Work
Ethic Camp at Washington's McNeil Island Correctional Center. Upon
completion of the camp she was to be released from her two-year sentence.
While at the camp, guard Eric Zoot exposed his penis to Green, entered the
shower area without allowing her or others to cover themselves, and cupped
Green's breast. He threatened to have her sent back to Purdy Correctional
Center if she related the incidents to anyone, and extended her special
privileges.

Another prisoner, who was party to the incidents, disclosed the incidents
to a counselor. An investigation ensued and Green was told by WDOC
officials not to disclose the incidents to anyone. Her mail and telephone
calls were closely monitored afterwards. Her lawsuit alleged sexual
harassment, assault, violation of free speech and infliction of emotional
distress.

On August 31, 2001, the suit was settled for $37,500. Green was
represented by Christine M. Weaver of Spokane. See: Green v. State of
Washington, Spokane County Superior Court, Case No. 01202192-8.
