$60,000 Awarded In New York Prisoner Assault Suit
assaulted by other prisoners at Shawangunk Correctional Facility in New
York. On 2-19-91 the prisoner was assaulted by other prisoners while
handcuffed in the prison yard. He suffered multiple lacerations to his head
and neck including a 20 centimeter laceration through his right ear. He
filed a Pro Se claim in the Court of Claims and the Court ruled in his
favor on 7/21/00 awarding him $35,000 for past pain and suffering and
$25,000 for future pain and suffering. See: Blake v. State of New York,
