$8,500 Paid in WA DOC Wrongful Warrant/Arrest Suit

John H. Queener was arrested on May 9, 1989, as the result of a standard
warrant search during a traffic stop. The warrant was issued on January 16,
1986 by the Washington State Department of Corrections Community
Supervision Office. However, on April 11, 1986, that warrant was cleared
and should have been quashed by Queener's Community Supervision Officer.
Queener spent six days in prison due to the warrant, and after release
filed suit in the Thurston County Superior Court for negligence for failing
to quash the warrant and illegal arrest. Queener, represented by Jeffrey B.
Ranes of the Glenn, Henderson, and Hoffman law firm in Olympia, settled the
suit for $8,500 on February 25, 1998. See: Queener v. State of Washington,
Thurston County Superior Court, Case no. 91-2-00501-7, unpublished.
