FL Country Club Settles For $475,000 With Golf Cart Driver

On August 6, 2002, Joseph Gautette was driving a golf cart at the
Cobblestone Country Club in Stuart, Florida. He was injured when he
collided with a maintenance vehicle being driven by a prisoner in a work
release program. Gautette was a computer software sales executive who
managed South American sales for an office based in Detroit, Michigan. His
injuries precluded regular trips as far as South America, so he was re-
assigned to a less lucrative but closer Canadian market. He filed a
premises-liability suit in a Florida trial court. The country club settled
for $475,000 a few weeks before trial. See: Gaudette v. Gemstone Golf
L.L.C., d/b/a Coblestone Country Club, Martin County Superior Court No. 02-
814-CA (2005).
