NY Prisoner Awarded $350 After Being Assaulted By His Cell Mate

On July 8, 2003, Arnold Fordham was a prisoner at the Five Pounts
Correctional Facility in Romulus, New York. After he refused his cell mate
a cigarette, the cell mate assaulted him, causing minor injuries to
Fordham's back, face, and elbow. Fordham had asked several times to be
moved to another cell because he feared his cell mate, but those requests
were not granted. Fordham filed a negligence suit against the state, in
which he was awarded $350 in damages. See: Fordham v. New York, New York
Court of Claims at Rochester, No. 108346 (2005)
