TDCJ Pays $95,000 to Settle Discrimination Suit
On October 28, 2008, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) agreed to pay former employee, Karon K. Connelly, $41,524.38 to settle a discrimination suit she had filed in May 2003. In addition to that amount, TDCJ is to pay $38,000 in attorney's fees to attorneys Martin A. Shellist, Mark Lazarz, and Todd Slobin, with Shellist Lazarz, LLP, as well as costs totaling $15,475.62.
In exchange, Connelly agreed to dismiss with prejudice her age discrimination complaint and release and indemnify TDCJ from any and all future litigation that may arise from the case. She also stipulated that she would neither apply for nor accept employment with the TDCJ or any of its divisions in the future. See: Connelly v. TDCJ, USDC, S.D. Tx., No. 4:03-CV-0158l.
