$7,500 as Settlement of Jail Nurse’s Sexual Harassment Claim
Washington State’s King County Jail has paid $7,500 to settle the sexual harassment claim of Valerie J. Lincoln. She claimed that while she was a nurse at the Jail from May through August of 2000, she was sexually harassed by prisoners and discriminated against by guards for their failure to take disciplinary action against the prisoners. Her claim said that guards would take disciplinary action against prisoners when they harassed male nurses but they retaliated against her when she complained.
On June 20, 2001, Lincoln settled the matter when a resolution was reached on her complaint with the Washington State Human Rights Commission. The documents related to this claim are available on PLN’s website. See: Valera Lincoln v. King County Jail Health Services, Wash.
