$75,000 Settlement in Sexual Harassment Suit Against Seattle Jail

Washington’s King County paid $75,000 to settle the sexual harassment and hostile work environment lawsuit of Dolores Riganti-Curtiss. She claimed that while working at the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention from November 1997 until she was “constructively discharged” in March of 2003, she was subject to unwelcome sexual comments and inappropriate touching by male guards and supervisors.

The complaint details actions of an unnamed Field Training Officer and repeated inappropriate conduct of Sgt. Edward Brenner. It also claims supervisors failed to act upon her complaints, leading to an atmosphere that forced her to leave the job.

Represented by Kent attorney Rod Stephens, Riganti-Curtiss settled the case on May 13, 2008. She received $13,274.25 for lost wages and $61,725.75 for emotional distress, attorney’s fees and reimbursement of litigation costs. The documents related to this claim are available on PLN’s website. See: Riganti-Curtiss v. King County, et al., Pierce Co. Supr. Ct., No. 06-2-06813-6.
