$1,000 Settlement in Washington DOC Prisoner’s Guard Assault Lawsuit

The State of Washington paid $1,000 to settle the lawsuit of prisoner Louis Batista for injuries sustained from being assaulted by Charles Rohrer, a Sergeant employed at the Stafford Creek Correction Center (SCCC).

While incarcerated at SCCC on March 9, 2004, Batista was in the dining hall eating and talking when Sgt. Rohrer told him to “tray up” and began to shout at him while he went to put his tray in the disposal unit. Rohrer then rushed Batista and slammed his head against the wall.

His complaint alleged intentional and deliberate assault and injury which resulted in continuous and ongoing medical treatment and mental injury.

Batista accepted settlement on February 16, 2007 acting pro se. See: Batista v. Washington, U.S. District Court, Western District of Washington, Case No. C04-5413.
