$10,000 Sex Abuse Suit Settled in Washington County

On June 5, 2008, Snohomish County agreed to pay $10,000 to a woman who was sexually abused by a guard at the Snohomish County Jail (SCJ). While at SCJ, Linda Ward was sexually abused by William Cassel, a former guard at the jail, Cassel touched Ward’s breasts, kissed her, touched her vagina, and engaged in oral sex with her.

Cassel was eventually charged and plead guilty to custodial sexual misconduct. In her lawsuit against the county, Ward alleged that the County improperly supervised Cassel and was otherwise negligent.

Ward received a $10,000 settlement from the County. Ward was represented by Brett Purtzer of Monte & Hester, Inc. a Tacoma, Washington firm.
