Oregon Cop Sexually Abuses Minor, Gets 10 Years
On August 16, 2011, a former Oregon police officer was sentenced to nearly ten years in prison on thirteen sex crimes.
Mark Benton Ashcraft, 38, was a police officer in the small northeastern Oregon town of Athena. That ended, however, when he was charged with sexually abusing a 15¬year-old girl in 2009 and possessing child pornography on his computer.
In July 2011, a jury convicted Ashcraft of six counts of sexual abuse and sodomy against the girl, and seven counts of possessing and viewing child pornography on his computer.
Ashcraft's attorney asked Judge Lynn Hampton to impose only probation, while prosecutors sought more than 11 years in prison. Hampton sided with the State, sentencing Ashcraft to nearly 10 years behind bars.
