Nurse’s Head Slap Nets Virginia Prisoner $16,676
A Virginia prisoner was awarded $16,676 for injuries sustained when a male nurse struck him on the back of his head.
Mr. Shaver was struck on the back of the head, causing him to hit his head on a wall. He suffered a laceration above the eye, requiring sutures.
Shaver sued in federal court, and a jury ruled in his favor. In March, 1996, he was awarded special damages of $16,076, punitive damages of $500 and other damages of $100, for a total award of $16,676. Shaver was represented by Steven D.
