$62,000 Paid in WA DOC Cook's Sexual Harassment Suit

Cheryl J. Danner was employed at the Washington Correction Center as a
kitchen employee. For over a year she was subjected to sexually explicit
comments, directions, innuendo, and indecent propositions by her supervisor
Oliver Coleman. After Danner filed a complaint with the Washington DOC, it
was ascertained there was substance and support for her complaint. However,
despite that finding and Coleman having a recorded history of such
harassment, no action was taken against Coleman. When the investigation was
complete, Coleman retaliated against Danner by instituting unwarranted
disciplinary action against her. Danner, represented by Michael Hanbey of
the Ditleuson, Rodgers, and Hanbey law firm in Olympia, filed a tort action
in the Thurston County Superior Court alleging sexual harassment, negligent
retention and/or supervision, outrage tort, retaliation, and 42 U.S.C.
§1983 violations. On November 6, 1998, Danner settled for $62,000. See:
Danner v. Riveland, Thurston County Superior Court, Case no. 95-2-004-4-8,
unpublished.
