Wrongful Death Lawsuit Of Prison Teacher Taken Hostage Settled for $1.3
Million

Kevin Taylor, husband and Administrator of his deceased wife Beverly's
estate, a former teacher at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility,
settled a State Court civil wrongful death lawsuit for $1,299,719.35
against the Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. Mr. Taylor's wife
was taken hostage by unknown prisoners, assaulted with a deadly weapon,
nearly decapitated, and murdered while employed at the prison as a
teacher. The Ohio Attorney General's Office reviewed and approved the
settlement of this matter on September 19, 1995, without admission of
liability. See: Taylor v. Dept. of Rehabilitation and correction, No. 93-
04951 (Court of Claims, Franklin County, Ohio September 20, 1995).
