$6,000 Settlement in D.C. Prisoner’s Excessive Force Suit

The District of Columbia (D.C.) paid $6,000 to settle the lawsuit of prisoner Warren Cunningham for injuries sustained from guards using excessive force against him.

While at D.C.’s Central Facility on May 15, 2001, Cunningham was beaten and slammed to the ground by guards Sgt. Mack and Cpt. Travis. Cunningham sustained severe back and neck pain.

His complaint alleged negligence for using excessive force, and assault and battery. Cunningham accepted payment on June 6, 2002. He was represented by Washington D.C. attorney Geoffrey D. Allen. See: Cunningham v. District of Columbia, Superior Court, District of Columbia, Case No. 02-0262.
