$7,500 Settlement in Discrimination, Harassment and Wrongful Termination Suit of D.C. Instructor

The District of Columbia (D.C.) paid $7,500 to settle an employment racial discrimination, harassment, and wrongful termination suit filed by Susan C. Law.

Law, a white female, worked as a Training Instructor at D.C.’s Lorton Training Academy from 1989 to 2000, specializing in firearms. She complained that LaVerne Harvey, the Administrator of the Training Academy discriminated against her based on race by denying her promotions and giving lesser qualified African-Americans the positions.

She further claimed he harassed her and had her wrongfully terminated by falsely claiming she was not performing the training and by eliminating her entire department. Law filed her complaint on September 15, 2000, and accepted settlement on July 26, 2001. She was represented by Alexandria, Virginia attorney John Edwards Harris. See: Law v. The Government of the District of Columbia, USDC, E.D. Virginia, Case No. 00-1546.
