Cigarette Health Hazards: The January 14, 1998, Volume 279, No. 2, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) contains an article on the risks of cigarette smoke in increasing the risk of heart disease. Title "Cigarette Smoking and Progression of Athero Sclerosis," by eight doctors, the article reports the results of a study which concluded that active and passive smoking are directly linked to a heightened risk of heart disease and stroke. These risks are heightened for people with diabetes and hypertension. The article provides useful scientific evidence for parties litigating tobacco related issues in prison, especially second hand smoke exposure.
