$10,000 Paid in WA Chaining to Fence and Beating Suit
Anthony Holland filed suit in the Western District of Washington federal
court alleging they were chained to a fence and beaten several times. One
incident lasted over eight hours, and such beatings and chainings became a
regular practice at Shelton. Holland also alleged a guard threw a bucket of
urine on him. On March 20, 1995, the prisoners agreed to settle the suit by
dividing $10,000 amongst themselves. They were represented by Barbetta
Ralphs and Alton White, Jr. of Tacoma, Wa. See: Holland v. Reed, USDC WD
WA, Case no. C85-1110B, unpublished.
