Sacramento County Settles Jail Beating Claim for $1,500

On April 10, 2006, the County of Sacramento, California settled a claim against it for the 2004 beating of a prisoner in the Sacramento County Jail by three Sheriff's Deputies.

Joseph Munyer filed a claim against Sacramento County alleging that, on April 11, 2004, three deputies assaulted and beat him while yelling racial slurs, then hogtied him and left him on the floor. He was in possession of a videotape which showed the beating and that it was unprovoked. He allegedly suffered facial contusions, shoulder and bi-lateral wrist strain, foot pain and blurred vision. He received medical treatment at Kaiser Hospital. The county settled the claim for $1,500. Munyer was represented by Elk Grove attorney Douglas White. See: In re Munyer, Claim No. LO 500111.
